Are you doing all the right things - diet, exercises but still your body fat is not going away? Then it is time to improve the functioning of your liver. Liver is the body’s main fat burning organ and regulates fat metabolism. When your liver is stressed, it is not able to perform well and as a result you can not lose  weight.

Why is the liver not able to burn fat?

A key secret to losing weight is to keep the liver healthy and operating at peak performance. The liver is the body's number one weapon against weight loss as it burns fat. If you have a clean liver, it will break down the fat into ATP or adenosine triphosphate, which is the fuel that powers your cells. Sufficiently high levels of ATP are essential to the survival of all cells. But when your liver is stressed, it is not able to convert the fat into ATP due to which it starts accumulating especially around the waist and midsection causing belly fat.

In such a situation, even if you exercise or work out, you would not be able to burn the fat. Though the calories are burnt, they are coming from glycogen. As a result, you are not able to see any improvement in your body weight.

Therefore, it is very important to have a healthy and clean liver because if it functions efficiently, losing weight will become much easier.

How to keep your liver healthy?

As per Dr Gamadia, you need to take care of your diet to avoid any stress to your liver. He suggests a few foods that you need to eat and avoid.

High-fibre foods, fruits, rice-based foods, and vegetables. 

What to avoid

1. Cut down on sugar - Sugar weakens your digestive tract due to which food stays for a longer time in the gut. And when this happens, the stomach absorbs more toxins affecting your liver. Moreover, excess sugar also damages the mitochondria, which is referred to as the powerhouse of the cell. When this is damaged, you can’t effectively burn fat or calories, resulting in a slower metabolism and more weight gain.

2. Avoid refined grains - These grains contain carbs that can contribute to weight gain and can worsen the condition of your liver. Also, refined grains are highly processed and are prepared by removing their fibre.

3. Don’t go for Beer, in case you drink - If you drink regularly, you should avoid beer. It is because beer contains glycerine and has a lot of calories.

As per Dr Gamadia, if you follow the above recommendations, not only your liver will become healthy but your belly fat will also reduce. He further suggests to not eat less food as this will lead to deficiencies in your body which may further result in hair loss and bad skin.

He also asks to take three supplements that can help you to lose your weight faster. These include:

1. Vitamin D3 - One of the most important micronutrients, Vitamin D3 helps to regulate weight loss by burning extra calories than the exercise done without taking this nutrient. More importantly, it helps the body maintain an alkaline state due to which there is less stress on the liver. And less is the stress, more is the oxygen supply in the blood which leads to burning of more fat. Take Vitamin D3 on an empty stomach and in case your D3 levels are good, you can skip it.

2. Calcium - Calcium also helps in weight loss by maintaining the body’s alkaline state. Dr Gamadia suggests taking 400 mg - 500 mg calcium supplement post lunch.

3. B-Complex - B-complex is very vital to keep your metabolism high. It facilitates weight loss by helping your body convert food into energy. Take it on alternate days, in case your urine turns bright yellow.

Along with the right diet and supplements, Dr Gamadia also suggests doing crossover and bicycle crunches at least thrice a week. These exercises will not only help in strengthening the muscles around your belly but also help your body accelerate fat loss.
