Pigmentation, dark spots, and wrinkles are skin issues that can affect our confidence and make us self-conscious. While most of us deal with some form of skin issue, it's crucial to know how to treat the problem effectively.
What are the reasons for pigmentation?
According to Dr. Dadu, there are several factors that can contribute to pigmentation, including nutritional deficiencies, prolonged sun exposure, wrong skincare routine, alcohol consumption, smoking, hormonal imbalance and lack of sleep. Dr Dadu explains that if a person follows the right skincare routine, then they can potentially prevent or mitigate the effects of pigmentation..
Morning Skincare Routine for Pigmented Skin
The cleanser should be the first thing that one should use in their morning routine. One should use a glycolic acid-based cleanser to reduce pigmentation. However, people with dry skin should avoid using glycolic acid-based cleansers as they can further dryness. Dr Dadu says that people with dry skin can use cetyl alcohol-based or hyaluronic acid-based cleansers, which help retain moisture in the skin.
After cleanser, the next step in a morning routine should be the application of vitamin C serum, which can prove highly beneficial for people with pigmented or dull skin. After using the vitamin C serum, Dr Dadu advises using a hydrating moisturiser and a good sunscreen. Further, Dr Dadu says that using sunscreen is essential irrespective of any weather condition. One can select a good sunscreen based on sun exposure, skin type and other relevant details.
People who experience more pigmented skin and related issues such as melasma and freckles are recommended to use physical sunscreen, as it provides prolonged sun protection and can prevent further pigmentation. Once the skincare routine is completed, one can proceed with their makeup.
Evening Skincare Routine for Pigmented Skin
Dr Dadu recommends starting the evening skincare routine with a double cleanse. Rather than using a single harsh cleanser, it's best to opt for a double gentle cleanser. The first cleanser should be gentle, and the second can be a micellar water cleanser.
After using the cleanser, another important step is to use a good skin-lightening cream. Dr Dadu says that it is very important for people to pick the right skin-lightening cream as per their skin type. There are plenty of skin-lightening creams available in the market which promise to reduce the pigmentation of the skin. However, most of these OTC creams consist of hydroquinone and steroids, which can damage the skin even more. These creams can cause rashes on the skin and can lead to hair growth on the facial skin.
According to Dr Dadu, one should buy those skin-lightening creams which contain Kojic acid, glycolic acid, lactic acid, arbutin and licorice. After using the skin-lightening cream one can use the same moisturiser, which they used in the morning.
Face Mask for Pigmented Skin
Dr Dadu advises people to use de-tan face masks which are available in the market.
Oral Supplement for Pigmented Skin
Dr Dadu advises that if one is facing pigmented skin, then he or she can take Glutathione as an oral supplement, which Dr Dadu says works wonders for pigmented skin.
Conclusion
People who are facing pigmented skin are advised to follow a rigorous morning and evening skincare routine. Following the right skincare routine can make several visible differences on the face and also have various benefits. Morning and evening skincare routines will not only reduce the level of pigmentation but bring down acne as well. As a result, the skin will feel fresh and plump.
